It’s hard to remember any of it now,” admits Volition’s Steve Jaros. “It feels like my life only just began last January.” Jaros, who served as creative director and lead writer on Saints Row IV – as well as on all the other entries in the franchise to date – is an optimistic kind of guy. It’s easy to read the many characters of the happy-go-lucky series into his demeanour – especially point man Pierce, whose motto ‘fun above all’ doubles as the games’ raison d’etre. But on the subject of the near-death of the franchise, it’s hard not to get a little sombre.
