Xbox at gamescom

Next week, Xbox heads to Cologne, Germany for gamescom, the world’s largest trade fair for interactive games and entertainment. Phil Spencer, Corporate Vice President, Microsoft Studios, recorded this podcast with Major Nelson to discuss our plans at the show, which will be held from Aug. 21-25. In the interview at the link below, they discuss many topics including favorite games they’re currently playing, improvements Phil is seeing in Xbox One’s development, and of course – what to expect at gamescom.

Phil will help kick off gamescom in the keynote at the opening ceremony on Aug. 21, supporting this year’s leading theme of the fair, “Next generation gaming”. Phil will be joined by the mayor of Cologne, Jürgen Roters (SPD), as well as the Federal Minister for Economy and Technology, Philipp Rösler (FDP).

The Xbox team is celebrating the creator at this year’s gamescom – showcasing the developers and titles that are driving excitement for Xbox One, including “Forza Motorsport 5,” “Dead Rising 3,” “Ryse: Son of Rome,” “Project Spark,” “Killer Instinct,” “Zoo Tycoon” and more. The Xbox team is excited to invite the public to the largest booth we’ve ever had at gamescom. More people than ever before will have the opportunity to play Xbox One games and the team will be welcoming them with open arms – giving away an Xbox One frequently at the booth all week long.

At a Showcase event on Tuesday, Aug. 20, we’ll be hosting media and community members to provide an opportunity for guests to engage with the games and game makers. In Phil’s words, “the creators make the platform sing”, so we’re placing our focus on the games.

We’ll have some exciting news to share from this event – you can see the latest news from the show on Xbox Wire and by following our hashtag #Xboxgamescom. We’ll also be live streaming on Xbox Live throughout the week and taking fans on a virtual tour of our very own Xbox booth on Thursday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. PST.
