Win a trip to San Francisco and rock the stage at Rocksmith’s 5th anniversary

Rocksmith celebrates its five-year anniversary this fall. The original Rocksmith debuted in October 2011; its successor, Rocksmith 2014, took the reins two years later. Today, hundreds of thousands of songs are played every day by budding guitarists and bassists who have finally found the musical method that works for them. We’ve decided that Rocksmith’s fifth birthday should come with a party – and every party needs music. So… wanna be in the band?

We’re looking for guitarists and bassists with Rocksmith success stories who dream of playing with a full band backing them up. After all, the whole goal of learning guitar with Rocksmith is to help you eventually play guitar without Rocksmith. This is your chance to do just that, at a real gig in a real San Francisco club. It’s like Rocksmith’s Master Mode, except we’re replacing the backing track with a live band and swapping the TV or PC monitor for a live audience.

If you want to audition, here’s what you need to do: First, record a short video of yourself – no more than three minutes – telling us your personal story as a Rocksmith player. We’re particularly interested to hear how our software has helped you – we want to know what kind of musician you were before you picked up Rocksmith (stone cold newbie, lapsed casual player, stagnated intermediate, or something else?), and how Rocksmith helped get you to where are you now. This is your chance to be an ambassador for all things Rocksmith, to offer tangible proof to the whole world that, yes, this thing really works. We’ll need to hear some of your playing too, but just give us a sample – we’re serious about that three-minute limit. Upload your video to whatever service you like, then head to Twitter or Facebook to announce it – and use the hashtag #Rocksmith5th so we can find it!

In early September, a team at Ubisoft Studio SF will pick two people to play at the event with our custom-built Rocksmith house band, The Notetrackers. We’ll hook you up with a performance coach from the dev team (because playing on stage is a little different than playing at home in your socks) and we’ll send you a video camera, so you can document your progress while you practice and prepare. (That’s yours to keep after the event!) In October, we’ll fly you and a friend to San Francisco, where you will play at least three songs on stage at Slim’s – the same stage where Rocksmith artists like Green Day, Foo Fighters, Radiohead, No Doubt, Blue Oyster Cult, and Eric Johnson have played. Come to town, play the guitar, rock the house, live the dream – for real. That’s the plan. You in?

You’ll find full rules here. Give it some thought, fire up the camera, post that video no later than August 31st, and use that #Rocksmith5th hashtag. Let’s make beautiful music together in October!
