Why sex could be Alien: Isolation’s big problem

Is the homage skin-deep?.

Horror and sex are often found in each other’s arms, but few films investigate that relationship as thoroughly as Alien, in which a monster that resembles a giant phallus explodes from a man’s chest in a parody of human birth. Ridley Scott’s best-known work might be the ultimate drama of anxiety (and specifically, masculine anxiety) about procreation – characters are stalked and variously penetrated while clambering around inside the Fallopian ventilation tubes of a giant, space-bound womb.
