A foolish opening remark: we’re nearing the “death” of the Modern Warfare-style shooter. By which I mean, the point after which everybody starts to write editorials about the “death” of Modern Warfare-style shooter, only to be mocked and rebutted by other, cooler people the morning after. Where once grubby desert settings and the implicit endorsement of major arms manufacturers prevailed, science fiction and fantasy narratives are now in the ascendant.
