Seven ways The Evil Within is unintentionally hilarious

Horror has a face, and you must laugh in the face of horror.

If ever a game called for an introductory food metaphor, it’s The Evil Within – a steaming, greasy, half-disintegrated hummock of horror inspirations, squirting silliness and scares in every direction. If it were a burger, it would arrive with a tentpole rammed through it in place of a cocktail stick, to stop the contents of the bun exploding all over your face. Creator Shinji Mikami is out to rediscover Resident Evil’s glory day, you see, which basically entails digging up all the Resi games, roping them together and trying to stuff them all into the same costume. The result is a deeply stupid, but strangely lovable horror experience that couldn’t be further from the likes of Slender if it did, in fact, step from the hellish folds of a parallel dimension.
