Nuclear Throne – first look at Vlambeer’s atomic warfare game for ID@Xbox

Gun-eating robots and katana-wielding chickens fight for post-apocalyptic supremacy.

Vlambeer is good with pixels. The developer is probably best known for the pixels in Super Crate Box, a single-screen platformer about monsters who get progressively angrier the more you don’t shoot them. Its latest game, Nuclear Throne, is a top-down, twin-stick roguelike shooter set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, in which you play as one of a cast of mutants, robots, plants and sentient crystalline dudes. It’s just as punishing and compulsive as Super Crate Box, with just a single life and a handful of hitpoints to keep you standing upright. And like all good things, it’s made of giant, chunky pixels.
