Has Watch Dogs missed its moment?
Can last year’s most anticipated game achieve the same excitement this spring?.
I’ve always wondered how much the hype for Watch Dogs owes to sheer stagecraft. The E3 2012 reveal was that most treasured of things: a truly mind-blowing announcement preceded by little in the way of speculation, with actual, unedited gameplay on show in place of the usual, super-ephemeral proof-of-concept trailer. Mike (our former deputy editor) and I were covering Ubisoft’s conference from London, and it fairly took our breath away. At the risk of sounding like a self-satisfied and presumptuous old hack, it’s rare in this profession that a reveal feels quite as, well, revelatory.
