Capcom Recap: 07/01/2017 – 07/06/2017

Hello, hello, Capcom Unity folks! Hope everyone had an excellent 4th of July, whether you got the day off or not. Though it was a short week, we managed to make it a very meaty one, with a brand new slice of gameplay from Monster Hunter: World. Read on for the full recap:

This past week, we played some golf and killed some zombies (in the same game!) and started a quest to save the world from Dr. Wily’s hands once more… and looked at some pretty game art!

But if you’re really into live streaming, this week was home to the annual Summer Games Done Quick. Kellen and Patrick dive a little deeper into some of the Capcom games featured in this amazing event, so keep on reading for the highlights.

Ever since the announcement at E3 this year, a lot of you have been clamoring to see actual gameplay of Monster Hunter: World. We heard you loud and clear, so without further ado, here is a 23 minute long slice of gameplay featuring a full quest to hunt a mighty Anjanath:

With Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 coming in just a few weeks, we thought we’d give you a quick rundown of what makes each of the games unique and stand out from the classic series as a whole. Here’s Kellen to give you a look at Mega Man 7, Mega Man 8 and Mega Man 9 .

Stay tuned and subscribe to the Mega Man YouTube channel so you don’t miss the Mega Man 10 video once it’s live.

Kellen Haney: Summer Games Done Quick has been going strong since last Sunday, raising money for Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders in an annual display of playing games fast with all proceeds from the event going to charity! If you’re like me and enjoy sleeping during the middle of the night, you might have missed RawDerps fly through the original Resident Evil in just 41 minutes and 44 seconds as Jill. Wow! What a speedrun!

Stranger things than usual have been happening on Rockfort Island in Pessimism’s “glitched” run of Resident Evil Code: Veronica X , thanks to a trick involving the innocuous Playing Manual item and a whole lot of explosive arrows. It only takes Pessimism 1 hour and 43 minutes to get through this classic RE story of the bond between siblings, the Umbrella Corporation, survival horror, and Steve Burnside.

Is horror not your thing? Maybe you’re looking for something more… extreme? There’s plenty more to watch from the Mega Man X block at SGDQ! See how fast orsa can blast through an All Stages run of Mega Man X6, or go back to basics with ColonelFatso’s Mega Buster-only run of Mega Man X. If you prefer a little more competition in your speedruns, check out the four-way race of Mega Man X2 featuring calebhart42, Trogdor, ColonelFatso, and Tokyo90, or a head-to-head battle between Nu_ and Trogdor in Mega Man X3 .

Patrick Kulikowski: And I raise my demon gauntlet up to speedrunner BowieTheHERO , who blew through the entirety of Onimusha: Warlords on PlayStation 2 (complete with Samanosuke’s panda suit) this past Wednesday for the annual Summer Games Done Quick charity livestream! You can watch the whole 1:16:45 run by clicking on the Twitch recording here , but I also highly recommend watching Bowie’s stellar impression of Guildenstern during this cutscene . Bravo!

Artist Dani “ahuron” Oliver took my breath away with fascinating, custom pixel art renditions of the heroes from Breath of Fire, Breath of Fire III, and Breath of Fire IV. I really love the attention to detail here, not to mention the character proportions: Ox and Garr look straight-up intimidating! Makes me glad they’re on our side.

Yuri Araujo: And to wrap things up in SSStyle, here’s a complete forging session of Dante’s Rebellion Sword, from Devil May Cry 3, by the crafty hands of blacksmith and YouTuber michaelcthulhu. He actually built a Rebellion Sword replica ages ago, but with his improved skillset and knowhow over the years, he decided to take another (Trillion) Stab at forging this iconic blade. Check it out:

That about wraps it up for the week. We’ve left you with a lot of videos (from new gameplay, to recaps and speedruns) to watch this weekend, so please take your time, but make sure to come back and let us know what you think!
