Adding playable women to games isn’t just fair – it’s smart

Ed reflects on the male-only line-up of Assassin’s Creed Unity.

The weekend before E3 I finally bit the bullet and watched Frozen, the film about magical princesses, goofy snowmen and fabulous ballgowns that, much to everyone’s surprise, has become the fifth highest-grossing release in box office history, narrowly ahead of Iron Man 3 and just behind the final Harry Potter film. It’s extremely good. The writing is both cuddly and sharp, and the plot (which I’m about to spoil) departs from tradition in a way game developers wrestling with the commercial implications of gender representation may find useful.
