The Boss Update & Add-Ons Are Coming To Minecraft On October 18

September 24, 2016 By: CrashTestDummy Category: Whats Up?

MINECON is here and we’re excited to bring you more details about the next big update for Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta, Minecraft: Pocket Edition and Minecraft: Gear VR Edition, releasing on Oct. 18.

As we mentioned a few weeks ago, the Boss Update is bringing boss battles to these versions of Minecraft for the first time. We’ve tweaked the Wither boss battle, added the Elder Guardian and its Ocean Monument filled with goodies for building and adventuring, and even introduced slash commands so you can tweak the game itself by summoning, teleporting and more.

Also arriving in the Boss Update will be the first iteration of Add-Ons. With Add-Ons, you’ll be able to experiment with remixing components of entities or characters in the game. By editing simple text files, anyone can tweak Minecraft itself to add enormous explosions to tiny chickens or make villagers run at lightning speed to chase away any new monster mob you choose to create. Worlds you create with Add-Ons can be shared with others directly or uploaded to your Realms and accessed anytime, anywhere.

If you’d like to look at some examples of what you can do with Add-Ons, we’ll be providing free downloadable examples on Minecraft.net once the update rolls out on Oct. 18. These examples will include the Alien Invasion Add-On we showed at E3 as well as the first community-created Add-On called the Castle Siege Add-On, created by our very talented community members SethBling, BlockWorks and the Mindcrack crew. In the future, we plan for Add-Ons to grow and include the ability to alter items, blocks and even more. For even more details about Add-Ons and a handy FAQ, check here!

In addition to new gameplay features and the ability for players to customize the game itself, we’ll also be adding new input options. The Boss Update will allow you to use your Xbox Wireless Controller with Bluetooth while you’re playing the Gear VR and Windows 10 Editions. And, VR players of the Windows 10 Edition Beta will be getting an update to support Oculus Touch input.

MINECON is just getting started for the weekend, and if you haven’t tuned in yet, you can follow along with all the festivities by checking out our livestreams all weekend.

Thanks for playing and we’ll see you online.

Everspace Now Available via Xbox Game Preview on Xbox One

September 24, 2016 By: CrashTestDummy Category: Whats Up?

Hamburg-based indie studio Rockfish Games has announced that its debut title Everspace has launched through Xbox Game Preview on Xbox One. In the coming weeks, it will be the very first title coming to Xbox Game Preview Program on Windows 10 and will support Xbox Play Anywhere featuring cross-saves and buy once, play anywhere.

“We were excited to be able to showcase Everspace at a variety of events over the past year – from E3 to Gamescom,” said Chris Charla, Director of ID@Xbox at Microsoft, “and it got great player response every time. We’re super excited that it’s coming to Windows 10 and Xbox One via game preview, and it’s awesome to have it as the debut Xbox Play Anywhere game in the ID@Xbox program.”

As an Xbox Game Preview title, Everspace is still in development and will be updated regularly. For the launch, an all-new boss fight, some voice-acted dialogs, a new planet type, additional Outlaw stations as well as many interface and gameplay tweaks have been added. Further additions and improvements feature most requested options like turning off v-sync, more granular graphic settings, and improved support for ultra-wide monitors.

In the coming months, two additional player ships will be added: The Colonial Scout, much smaller than the current Colonial Interceptor, will feature extreme maneuverability, a higher top speed but a weaker hull. It comes with a cloaking device and sniper weapons as starting gear. The upcoming Colonial Gunship will be the slowest of the three space ships but will compensate through a much stronger hull and an upgradable turret on top.

The Full Release is scheduled for end of Q1 2017 and will feature a fully voice-acted story with several thoughtfully designed characters and situation-based events, as well as the Hardcore Mode and full VR support.

“Thanks to our friends at ID@Xbox, we had the fantastic opportunity to demo Everspace to Xbox and Windows 10 gamers at pretty much every major games show since GDC earlier this year.” says Michael Schade, CEO and co-founder of Rockfish Games. “We cannot wait to launch our very first console game ever on Xbox One and offer players the ability to play on both Xbox One and Windows 10 via Xbox Play Anywhere.”

Grab Everspace for Xbox One now, and keep an eye out for the Windows 10 version launching in the next few weeks!

Watch Dogs 2 – 10 Ways It’s Bigger, Better, and Bolder than the Original

September 23, 2016 By: Sniper Category: Whats Up?

The first Watch Dogs was as much a gritty revenge story as it was a hacker adventure, following the ever-grumpy Aiden Pearce on an odyssey through Chicago’s seamy – yet universally networked – underworld. Watch Dogs 2 is something else altogether, with big gameplay improvements and an overall sunnier outlook – and after we spent a few hours exploring and experimenting with its world, the differences between the two games are as clear as night and day. Here are 10 of the biggest:

Watch Dogs 2 will arrive on Xbox One, PS4, and PC on November 15. To find out more about what’s in store, check out our previous coverage:

Attend ‘Gears Art’ Exhibition; Win a Chance to Attend ‘Gears Live’

September 23, 2016 By: CrashTestDummy Category: Whats Up?

‘Gears Art’ is an art exhibition featuring dozens of works from the Gears of War universe including concept art from Gears of War 4 and original artwork inspired by the series. The opening night event will be held Saturday, October 1 from 7-10 PM at Nucleus Gallery in the Los Angeles area and will include door prizes, raffle prizes, and the opportunity to attend* the “Gears of War 4: Live” launch event. The exhibition will remain open for viewing through Sunday, October 2nd.

The first 200 entrants to the ‘Gears Art’ opening night event will receive invitations* to attend the ‘Gears of War 4: Live’ launch event, a live-stream celebration on October 5th from Burbank, CA featuring creators, cast and top Gears eSports players to be streamed worldwide. Attendees of ‘Gears of War 4: Live’ will also be among the first to play the game before the game is released via early access on October 7.

Gears Art marks the first gallery show for the iconic Xbox series that celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. The exhibition includes diverse works across a range of mediums, including:

  • Gears of War 4 Art – An extensive selection of Gears of War 4 concept art, production art and finished renders will be on display, many of it never-before-seen. “Gears of War 4 is an all-new saga, set 25 years after Gears of War 3. It’s also the first Gears game developed for today’s technology, including 4K,” said Kirk Gibbons, Art Director for The Coalition. “From a design standpoint, it was an opportunity to return to the tense and brutal atmosphere of the series roots, while taking an evolutionary step forward in other areas, specifically character design and animation.” The art will be featured in the upcoming hardcover “The Art of Gears of War 4” from Dark Horse which will be available for pre-order at the event.
  • Tony Moore Fine Art Prints – Tony Moore will debut the last of his three-panel collaboration at the show, each of which will be available as limited edition fine art prints from Nucleus Gallery: “Highway to Hell” (debuted at San Diego Comic-Con), “Fear the Swarm” (debuted at PAX), and a third piece to debut at Nucleus. “The Gears characters have fantastic details, and a really impressive sense of weight,” said Moore. “Plus, I love drawing chunky tech and big ugly monsters.”
  • Gears of War 4 Soundtrack – The Gears of War 4 soundtrack by composer Ramin Djawadi (Iron Man, Pacific Rim, Game of Thrones) will make its public debut at the event. “Gears 4 is action-driven, but there’s an underlying emotional through-line that I really liked,” said Ramin.
  • COG Armor Replicas – Full-size replicas of the iconic Lancer and COG armor from the Gears of War universe will be on display featuring unique designs by artists from around the world. Based on fan response these designs may be added to the game as unique character skins.

*Admittance to the Gears of War 4: Live event is on a first come, first served basis until the venue reaches capacity. Possession of a ticket does not guarantee admittance to the show.

September 23, 2016 By: Sniper Category: Whats Up?

So far, we’ve learned a few key things about Marcus Holloway, protagonist of Watch Dogs 2 and member of hacker collective DedSec. In the new story trailer, we’re introduced to Blume CTO Dusan Nemec, an ambitious yoga enthusiast who views DedSec as a serious threat. We also get our first real look at DedSec members Horatio and Josh, and a confirmed appearance by someone very familiar to fans of the first Watch Dogs.

Set in an open-world recreation of the San Francisco Bay Area, Watch Dogs 2 will arrive on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 15. For more on what’s in store in this hacker’s paradise, check out our previous coverage:
